Ranking System Explained

The original Ranking System was devised in the mid-1970s and has served well over the years.  In 2009, however, a number of changes were made to the ILCA Entry Process for the World and European Championships, including entering on line.  Over the years a few other minor modifications have been made to take account of changing circumstances and ILCA interpretations.

In late August 2015 the Ranking System was further updated to encompass various ISAF changes and an opportunity was taken to revise and clarify a number of aspects, whilst still retaining the principles set out in the early years.

INDEMNITY CERTIFICATES

New certificate to Replace Cheques

When the Irish Laser Association requests an additional places for a specific sailor for an event it may be held financially liable from the time that the place is requested until that place is either refused or paid for by the Applicant (if a place is not offered there is no liability).

In the past, sailors wishing to obtain extra places at Laser World or European events would have to provide “Guarantee” cheques to the Irish Laser Association before they would be ranked.

The use of cheques by Banks is becoming increasingly rare and this has proved to be quite demanding for everyone and, as a result, a new system of “Indemnity Certificates” is being trialled for 2017.

There are three aspects that should be noted.

No extra place will be requested for an Applicant until a properly signed Indemnity Certificate is received (by email or by post).

Extra places will be sought in the order in which Indemnity Certificates are received.

Failure to “honour” the undertaking made in the Indemnity Certificate will mean that it would become virtually impossible for that sailor to qualify for an event during, at the very least, the following year.
